Varkala Aquarium has a decent collection of fishes in a number of large sized that can be viewed from a walkway that spirals upwards. One can find a number of species including Karimeen, Pirahnas, Eels etc. The aquarium also has a 3D theatre where information about more species of fishes is given using the 3D technology. Anchuthengu is a small coastal town between the sea and backwaters near Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala. Various colonial powers tried to occupy the place in the past but the British East India Company established its first trade settlement here in 1684, and built the Anjengo Fort. ‘Anjengo’ was a mispronunciation of the word Anchuthengu by the British.
